Richmond Fraud update - September 2025

We are sharing the latest figures on reported fraud in the Richmond borough for September 2025 to raise awareness and encourage vigilance.

The total reported losses for the month amounted to £4,547,740, with a substantial £4,000,000 linked to False Accounting. This type of fraud typically involves individuals or organisations manipulating financial records—such as altering or misrepresenting accounts—to conceal their true value, often in an attempt to secure loans or financial gain.

In addition to this, over £500,000 was lost to other forms of fraud, with online shopping scams being a significant contributor. These scams often involve fake websites, counterfeit goods, or fraudulent sellers.
